\nSt Francis de Sales Church confirmed as not\u00a0earthquake prone following a review\u00a0As part of its ongoing strategic review\u00a0of parish properties the Parish Finance\u00a0Committee commissioned a review of the\u00a0extent to which our buildings met, or did\u00a0not meet the New Building Standard (NBS).<\/p>\n
Following an extensive review, including\u00a0ground testing and a peer review, the\u00a0Wellington City Council now confirms that\u00a0the St Francis de Sales church is no longer\u00a0considered earthquake prone. The \u2018yellow\u00a0stickers\u2019 may now be removed, and the\u00a0building open to full public use, including\u00a0by the St Francis de Sales school.<\/p>\n
This is indeed good\u00a0news, and we are grateful to the Finance Committee,\u00a0the Parish Council, the St Francis de Sales school and the\u00a0wider parish for their patience in what we know has been\u00a0a trying time.<\/p>\n
The parish is appreciative of the work put in\u00a0by consultants John McNaughton of Spencer Holmes and\u00a0Peter Johnstone of New Zealand Consulting Engineers.<\/p>\n
A special School Mass<\/strong> will be celebrated on\u00a0Tuesday 25th July to welcome St Francis de Sales School\u00a0children and staff back into the Church, starting with a\u00a0Powhiri (welcome ceremony) outside at 9:15am.
