Masses and public liturgies

All public Masses and liturgies in the Archdiocese are suspended from 20 March until further notice, both weekday and weekend Masses. Some churches will be open for private prayer, and social distancing should be observed if people are doing this. A dispensation from the diocesan Bishop releases Catholics from fulfilling their obligation to attend a Sunday Mass. Since public Masses are suspended in the Archdiocese until further notice, all Catholics in the Archdiocese are dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass (Canon 1248).

The Suzanne Aubert Scout Group is running Cubs (girls and boys aged 8 – 11) and Scouts (girls and boys aged 11 – 14) on Monday nights 6.30 – 8pm at St Anne’s Hall in Newtown. This terms activities include: fishing, campfire cooking, geocaching, outdoor adventure and
games nights. Come along and join the adventure.

Safeguarding is about ensuring we have a culture and environment where the safety of children, young people and adults is paramount. Safeguarding is about the physical, emotional, spiritual and sexual safety of everyone.

Tuesday 10th March @ 6:30pm St Anne’s Hall, Newtown

One final opportunity to attend Safeguarding Workshop 1 – a requirement for all involved in parish ministry to children, youth and the vulnerable. The workshop is also open to all who are interested in making our parish a safe space. It will be led by Joe Green who has introduced many organisations to this process, takes a gentle approach, and encourages you to attend, even if only to “look see”. ‘Catholic bishops warn proposed abortion law removes tenuous unborn rights New Zealand’s Catholic bishops are concerned that unborn babies will lose their existing tenuous legal rights if Parliament passes the Abortion Legislation Bill in the form proposed by a select committee.
And unborn babies with a fetal disability will have even less protection than under the current law, the bishops note.’
